Work, Culture and Communication Option - 2nde

This is an optional modular course of 3 hours per week.

Objectives:

  • To introduce students to a variety of subjects and skills which go beyond the core high school curriculum.
  • To enrich students’ use of written and oral English in a new area of study
  • To enhance students’ personal awareness and confidence

 

Modules are taught by different teachers, each module representing approximately 12 hours of tuition, spread over several weeks.

1. Introduction to Economics:

Initiation into an understanding of basic economic concepts and how economic systems have been developed.

2. Business studies:       

A detailled introduction to the structure and objectives of businesses through research, problem-solving and visits. The students are encouraged to organise their own work experience in June.

3. Film Studies:

Students study critical theory and produce their own films..

4. History of Art:

A survey and assessment of artistic creativity and genres from ancient times to the contemporary world.

5. History of Music:

A study of selected musical forms.

6. Archaeology:

An investigation of methods and key finds.  

7. Philosophy:

A study of major ideas and currents of thought through student research and debate.  

8. Model United Nations:

Debate and participation in a regional school conference.

 

 

 

 

N.B. There is a supplement to Tuition fees for those choosing this option to cover the extra 3hrs/week of specialized teaching.
