3ème History/Geography Programme
History Aims
The programme studies events and developments in the world during the 20th century focusing on the United States in the 1920s and 30s, the rise of Fascism, World War Two, the Cold War, Decolonization, and the Civil Rights Movement. The main themes are:
- Historical causation: change and continuity in politics and power; religion ; industry ; technology; human rights ; territorial division
- The impact of historical change on society
- The role of individuals in history
- Injustice/ inequality ; reform, rebellion , revolution
- Historical evidence, analysis, interpretation and bias
- Empathy with the lives of different groups of people at different points in time
- The development of a global society and of events with a global impact
- The causes, characteristics and consequences of wars
- Ideologies and political systems
- Role of the media
Geography Aims
The programme studies specific geographical themes (demography, migration, urbanisation, industrial and agricultural systems, environmental change,) in the U.S.A., Japan, and the European Union. The main themes are:
- The concept of place, region, zone: uniqueness, specificity, similarity, unity and diversity
- The relationship between human activities and the natural environment
- The description, measurement and representation of spatial organisation and social activity
- Geographical process: cause/ consequence/constraints
- Environmental degradation/ sustainable development
