International Award - Cévennes 2009

Welcome back to the intrepid International Award hikers from their May 4th through 8th expedition in the Cevennes.

Seventeen 3ème students, accompanied by Neil McKain, Kat Weinert and Tim Vogel arrived at the Eagle’s Nest, a geography fieldwork center at the base of Mt. Lozère (elevation 1699 m.) in cold (3° C) and windy weather.

After a practice hike to survey the terrain and a day of training in campcraft, first aid and navigation skills, the groups set out Wednesday morning, their backpacks fully loaded with tents, stoves, food and water for their two-day (25-30 km.) routes. All returned safely and (happily) exhausted with even their garbage bags in tow in accordance with the backcountry credo : " everything packed in, gets packed out. " Many thanks to the center’s staff for their warm hospitality and congratulations to all seventeen on the successful completion of their Bronze Award expedition.
